Missouri Conference Apportionments for 2008

United Methodists join John Wesley in affirming the divine call to do good works that show God's love wherever we can. We are mutually connected and organized so that our individual efforts blend with the work of others to be more powerful than any one person alone. Our budgets support our "good works" and express our covenant to the connectional service and multiply God's love in tangible ways.

Listed below are the apportionments we will be sharing during 2008.  For each heading you will see the total Missouri Conference budget for that item as well as Wesley UMC's portion of that budget.

World Service & Conference Benevolences
$1,980,360 (conference) / $4,885 (Wesley UMC)
This fund is the heart of our denomination-wide ministry, underwriting Christian mission and ministry world wide. It supports all of the denominations boards and agencies and:
strengthens evangelism efforts
stimulates church growth
expands Bible studies
enriches spiritual commitment

Episcopal Fund
$517,905 (conference) / $1,278 (Wesley UMC)
Bishops serve the annual conference and provide leadership to the entire denomination. This fund supports salaries, benefits, and expenses. It is apportioned to the Missouri Conference from the General Conference. Bishops are called upon to be an important connection among the:

Ministerial Education Fund
$643,623 (conference) / $1,588 (Wesley UMC)
The United Methodist Church has 13 seminaries to train clergy. One of those seminaries is Saint Paul School of Theology located in Kansas City. This fund provides assistance to those who are in seminary. The importance of the Ministerial Education Fund apportionment is how it affects the quality of pastors serving in The United Methodist Church. Funding quality education in our seminaries is, undoubtedly, our most important investment in the future. Every United Methodist Church benefits from the work of this fund.

Black College Fund
$256,288 (conference) / $632 (Wesley UMC)
United Methodism supports ten black colleges and a medical school that maintain an ongoing relationship with the denomination. It helps provide:
Well-equipped buildings
Solid academic programs
Strong faculties
A nurturing environment to encourage students in each new generation to affirm and celebrate African-American heritage and culture

General Administration Fund
$174,332 (conference) / $430 (Wesley UMC)
The General Administration Fund apportionment supports general church administrative activities.
Nurtured and funded by United Methodists, the fund:
Maintains a system of management oversight and fiscal accountability;
Supports the work of the Judicial Council to adjudicate questions of church law;
Designates historical church shrines, landmarks and sites;
Maintains official documents and historical artifacts of The United Methodist Church and predecessor denominations; and
Underwrites the legislative work of General Conference, the arena in which United Methodists come together to work through their differences and to discover the important things that unite them.

Africa University Fund

This United Methodist university is the first non-government one established in Zimbabwe, Africa.

Interdenominational Cooperation Fund

United Methodists are a small part of the worldwide Christian church--the living body of Jesus Christ.
The Interdenominational Cooperation Fund apportionment was established in 1952 to:
Support ecumenical efforts around the world;
Witness to the Christian faith;
Foster a renewal of Christian unity and understanding;
Meet human suffering; and
Advocate for global peace and justice.

The fund covers salaries, utilities, travel, professional expenses, and continuing education for the twelve district superintendents who serve this conference and the coordinator of area ministries. The superintendents provide assistance and resources to the:
