April 2010 - Shiloh.  A mistreated beagle pup that follows a young boy home.

March 2010 - Iron Will.  A young man needing money to pay the mortgage on teh family farm enters a 500 mile dogsled race hoping to win the cash prize.

February 2010 - Deep End of the Ocean.  This is a film about family's reaction when the youngest son is kidnapped and then found nine years later.

December 2009 - The Christmas Wife.  A widower, not wanting to spend his first Christmas alone, responds to an ad for "social introduction."  This is a family film.

November 2009 - Dear Frankie.  A young, single mother of a deaf boy seeks to protect him from the truth about his father. Warm and insightful.

October 2009 - Something the Lord Made.  This film tells the story of the 34-year partnership between two men, one black and one white, who together pioneer modern heart surgery.

September 2009 - The Secret Life of Bees.  Lily and her caregiver flee to South Carolina during the civil rights movement.  Staying with the three Boatwright sisters they learn about beekeeping, religion, and love.

August 2009 - Saving Sarah Cain.  A big city columnist becomes the legal guardian for her five Amish nieces and nephews.  Sarah must decide the best way to make a new life for them.  Directed by Michael Landon Jr.

July 2009 - Finding Neverland.  This story details the experiences of J.M. Barrie who after befriending four boys and their widowed mother, authors the classic "Peter Pan."  A great movie!

June 2009 - The Staircase.  This 1998 uplivifting film stars Barbara Hershey.  A dying nun works to see the completion of a chapel in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  Mr. Joad offers to build a spiral staircase at no charge.

In May 2009 the Movie Group met to discuss Changeling, directed by Clint Eastwood. It is based on a true story.  In 1928 a single mother's son is kidnapped.  She challenges the corrupt Los Angeles police force.

Since it was the month of Easter, in April 2009 the class watched The Passion of the Christ, a film by Mel Gibson which focused on the final days and crucifixion of Jesus Chris

This month, March 2009, our video was Moondance Alexander.  This heartwarming movie is based on a true story about a young, spirited girl who befriends a pinto ponty.  This is a film that is appropriate for everyone.

With Black History Month in mind, in February 2009 the group discussed The Rosa Parks Story.  This is, of course the story behind the civil rights heroine who refused to obey racial segregation.

In January 2009 we watched and discussed World Trade Center.  This is a powerful film that tells the true story of police officers at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

Our December 2008 film was The Christmas Shoes.  On Christmas Eve, a young boy meets a lawyer while trying to buy a pair of shoes for his dying mother. An interesting exchange occurs.

Back in November 2008 our movie was Country Remedy, a heartwarming family drama.  A Chicago doctor agrees to spend a summer setting up a clinic in the North Carolina mountains.

The August 2008 movie was Kite Runner.  Set in Afghanistan, a rich young man abandons his friend.  It's based on the current well known novel.  This movie is available at several movie rental outlets.

Our July 2008 movie was The Ultimate Gift.  The story is about a young man who must complete 12 tasks before receiving a large inheritance from his grandfather.  He learns a lot about personal values. This movie is available in the church library.

At its June 2008 meeting, the group discussed Schindler’s List. Based on a true story of a German businessman who saves over a thousand Jews from almost certain death during the holocaust.

In May 2008 Driving Miss Daisy was discussed.  This movie is about an elderly southern Jewish lady and her African-American Chauffeur.  Racism and prejudice are included.

The April 2008 film was A Beautiful Mind.  This film tells of a Princeton University student who accepts a position with MIT.  The subject of schizophrenia was explored in this movie
