Update on the United Methodist
Build
September 2008 Report: The footings were staked on Wednesday September 10, and then dug and poured on Thursday, September 11. Early October 2008 Report: A contractor placed and poured the foundation walls allowing for the under slab electrical conduits and plumbing to be installed. The floor was then poured. Once that was accomplished, we were ready to start framing, which began on Saturday, October 4. October 20, 2008 Report: After four weeks, the lower floor exterior walls, floor joists, subfloor, three of the four exterior walls and several of the interior walls are installed. All of this was done with the help of the Tuesday Crew of retirees. With help this weekend, the upper floor should be ready for the installation of the trusses. It is an exciting time for the Hargis family to see their dream of having their own home start to take shape. October 27, 2008 Report: The lower floor exterior walls, floor joists, subfloor, four exterior walls and several of the interior walls were installed as of last week, and by the time you read this, the upper floor, trusses and roof will be added to the list. The Hargis family is excited to see their own home taking shape, but there is still much work to be done. November 5, 2008 Report: The walls are up, the roof trusses and decking are on. The roof is closed in and water tight.Exterior doors and windows were installed last weekend. Currently, plumbing and heating sub-contractors are working in their areas. November 10, 2008 Report: The plumbing and heating sub contractors have done their part. Installation of the vinyl siding began the weekend of November 8. When the exterior is finished we will be moving inside to begin the work on the countless things, big and little, necessary to make this structure a home for the Hargis family. November 14, 2008 Report: Once the vinyl siding is completely installed and exterior is complete, we can start the inside stage and be able to work in spirte of weather conditions. The United Methdoist "Home Makeover" crew is buing right along, but it would go faster with more help. We could use more Wesley workers.
January 3, 2009 Report: We
resumed construction on the River City Habitat for Humanity Methodist Build
House on Clark Ave after taking the last three weeks off for the Christmas
holidays. As the weather was wonderful and the temperature neared 70 degrees
much was accomplished. The crew completed the siding and soffits on the West
side of the house, completed framing details around the bathtubs, completed
insulation on the exterior walls, cleaned and arranged the rest of the house
making ready for the delivery of the drywall this week. January 17, 2009 Report: The volunteer support for the Methodist Habitat Build has been wonderful these last two weeks. It has allowed the house to progress significantly since the holidays. The drywall is hung, and taping and mudding has commenced and, it is anticipated, will continue through January 31th. It is hoped that the spray texture coating can then be installed during the week and priming of the walls can commence on the weekends. It is anticipated that priming might begin on Saturday, February 7 with final painting the following week. We will try to provide updates on Sunday at both worship services. Thanks again for all your support, not only in working on the job site, but providing wonderful, nourishing meals for the other volunteers and your continued prayers for this very important local mission opportunity. Remember: Wesley Church is providing lunch for the work crews each Saturday of January. So if you don't want to do construction but would be interested in helping to furnish lunch any of those days, please sign up on the Blue Cards.
