As the Director of Youth Ministries, Penny is committed to helping the youth develop a deep desire for an "up close and personal" relationship with Jesus Christ. She is intentional in her faith development and encourages and shows youth how they can be "intentional" in their own faith journey Penny grew up on a farm outside of Russellville. Her roots go deep in that community with most of her family still all there. She was raised in Lutheran church where she develop a desire to serve God. She remembers national Youth Encounter teams coming to their church and thinking that "one day I want to do that." And she did. When she was 19, she served on a summer team that traveled through five different states, working with youth groups, work camps, VBS, etc. and she was hooked. She has been involved in some type of ministry ever since - from youth to adult. God has given her the ability to be a leader and an encourager. She has used those gifts as chair and program chair of the Capital Area Christian Women's Connection - an outreach ministry that connects women with God, each other and their communities, for the past six years. Penny and her husband Keith have been members of Wesley UMC for the past seven years. They have two children, Garet is 23 and Libby is 10. Penny is a certified lay speaker with the United Methodist Church and has served as pulpit supply at various area churches as well as Wesley. She has been teaching the middle school Sunday School class and leading the WOW Bible Study on Wednesday evening. She has also serves on various committees. She is excited that God has lead her up to this time and this place that she can use the gifts He has given her to help raise up a generation for Christ - a group of young people that "will not be looked upon because they are young, but will set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity." (1 Timothy 4:11) Pennyy works part-time (20 hours/week). You may catch her at the church on Mondays and Tuesdays in the office, Wednesday evenings with the youth as well as Sunday mornings and evenings.
