Wesley's United Methodist Women

Our United Methodist Women's unit is a relatively new group within the Wesley congregation.  The U.M.W., as it is called, actually has a long tradition.  It is part of a movement that began back in the 1870's as Methodist women gathered to address their spiritual needs.  From the beginning they organized efforts to address the needs of children and to strengthen the missionary work of the church.

Today more than one million other women, including the members of United Methodist Women of this congregation, continue this heritage of service to others.  United Methodist Women is an organized group of women to work under the direction, authority and example of Jesus Christ, for the continuing humanization of God's world, mobilizers for the resources of women, and active participants in the global mission of the church.

We support mission projects - local, national and around the world - with our love, gifts, service, and prayers.   We try to become whole persons through reading, study and prayer.

2010 Festival of Sharing  (October 16)
The third Saturday of October each year is the day that people of faith, from many different denominations all over the state, gather at the Missouri State Fairgrounds in Sedalia to participate in the Festival of Sharing, now in its 28th year.  Groups and families contribute money that has been raised and “kits” that have been assembled during the year.  Volunteers help to sack rice, beans and potatoes for distribution to Missouri agencies.  Kits, assembled for Church World Service, are loaded on a semi truck to continue their journey to other parts of the world.
The Wesley United Methodist Women will be putting together Family Food Packs that will be distributed to families in Missouri.  Wesley U.M.W. is requesting help from all members of Wesley with this Festival project.  The food packs contain cans of assorted vegetables, assorted fruits, tuna, pasta sauce, pasta, peanut butter, spam, rice, dried pinto beans, and packages of macaroni & cheese.  If you can assist by contributing any of these items, please place them in the box in the church fellowship hall marked “Festival of Sharing.”
