Wesley's United Methodist Women

Our United Methodist Women's unit is a relatively new group within the Wesley congregation.  The U.M.W., as it is called, actually has a long tradition.  It is part of a movement that began back in the 1870's as Methodist women gathered to address their spiritual needs.  From the beginning they organized efforts to address the needs of children and to strengthen the missionary work of the church.

Today more than one million other women, including the members of United Methodist Women of this congregation, continue this heritage of service to others.  United Methodist Women is an organized group of women to work under the direction, authority and example of Jesus Christ, for the continuing humanization of God's world, mobilizers for the resources of women, and active participants in the global mission of the church.

We support mission projects - local, national and around the world - with our love, gifts, service, and prayers.   We try to become whole persons through reading, study and prayer.

U.M.W. - March Meeting
On Saturday, March 27 Wesley's unit of United Methodist Women will meet at 9:00 a.m. for brunch and an excellent program entitled “Piecing Earth Together”.  Guest speaker Louise Schreiber will emphasize seeking new ways to contribute to environmental conservation to honor God's great creation.  In other words, we'll be looking at how we can go out into God's creation and discover ways to piece our earth back together.  All women are invited to attend and bring a favorite brunch dish to share; please feel free to bring a guest as well.
Outstanding Woman in Mission Selected by UMW
Attendees of the UMW meeting on Saturday, March 27, at 9:00 a.m. will be asked to select the 2010 Outstanding Woman in Mission of the Year.  The nominees should be women in our church who best contribute to our UMW unit by such things as recruiting new members, organizing new circles or subgroups, leadership development, the UMW reading program, social justice ministries, the campaign for children, creative programming, and interpretation and use of Women's Division resources.  The woman selected will represent Wesley UMW at the District level.  Please call Linda Sullivan with any questions about the March 27 meeting or this award.
Call for Prayer “Shawls” and Baby Blankets
Across the United States, United Methodist Women members are knitting, crocheting or sewing prayer shawls to give to people in their communities in need of compassion and caring, warmth and love.  When shawls are completed, they are blessed during brief services in local churches, and then distributed nearby.  Find out how you can help.
U.M.W. Assembly 2010
United Methodist Women from across the entire denomination assemble every four years to celebrate, to lift up, to learn, and to return to their communities better equipped for mission.  The 2010 U.M.W. Assembly will be held in St. Louis making it possible for women of our church to experience this dynamic event.  "Faith • Hope • Love in Action" will be the theme.  The date is April 30 to May 2.  [Find out more]
