We have completed our Mission Monday projects for July. We had a total of 20 youth and 14 adults
help on the various Mondays. Our first Monday found us in the Wesley kitchen cooking for 150 youth/adult who were on a Volunteers in Mission team serving in Jefferson City/Columbia. The youth made an awesome taco salad and yummy brownies! Our next Monday was action packed with a few projects at church; sorting school supplies at the Samaritan Center; making lunches for the "Food for Kids", and painting/landscaping and washing windows at the Agape House. There were a lot of tired youth and adults that night! Our third Monday found us at four homes of church members helping them with yard/landscaping work and washing windows. The youth were highly praised and appreciated for their hard work from the cards and words of thanks they received from these members. The afternoon was all fun and games as we went to Heisinger Home and played Bingo with the residents. It is always uplifting to see the youth interact with the residents and see the smiles on the residents' faces. Many of them shared of days when their kids were in youth group activities. Our fourth Monday found the youth and adults interacting and playing with the children at the Jefferson City Daycare Center in the morning. Then it was on to power washing siding at several Habitat homes and sorting clothes/shoes/toys and dressing Barbies at the Salvation Army Thrift Store! The youth were rewarded with a pool party/barbecue after their final project. But I really believe their reward was received each day as they reflected on their work after each day and realized that in some little way they made a difference in someone's life that day. There really is no greater reward than that. --- Penny Mueller
