Pastor Tom is going to take the next few weeks to do a little “Methodist 101” and take a look at what makes us Methodist.
The Methodist Five:
Sunday, February 3 - Five things the Methodist Church asks of the Congregation: Prayers, Presence, Gifts, Service, Witness. Matthew 7:7-11
Sunday, February 10 - Four Sources of Authority: Scripture, Tradition, Reason, and Experience. Matthew 13:1-9
Sunday, February 17 - Three Stages of Grace: Prevenient, Justifying, and Sanctifying. 2nd Peter 3:14-18
Sunday, February 24 - Two Kinds of Holiness: Personal and Social Holiness. John 8:2-11
Sunday, March 3 - One Mission: to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Matthew 28:16-20

Classes for adults, children, and youth focusing on teaching biblical concepts.
A more contemporary worship led by praise band.
Adult Bible Study Opportunities
Sunday Mornings at 9:45 a.m.
The Bible 101 class meets in the Library. If you like reading from the Bible this is the group for you. They choose a book of the Bible and then work their way through it using the Serendipity Bible questions.
The Soul Survivors class meets in room 117. They use the “Faithweaver Now” study guide which has an emphasis on families and our faith.
The “Piece Makers” – these ladies like to quilt while they study the Bible. Quilting skills not necessary. They will teach anyone! They meet in room 115.
The OPUS class meets in room 116. Leaders take turns facilitating Bible studies corresponding with Pastor Tom’s Sunday morning Sermon Series and other topics of interest. This group has been described as “rowdy” and “lively”. No matter what the term, they are always a good time.
The Family Development class meets in room 119. This class focuses on marriage, the parenting challenges of pre-school/grade school children, and anything else that comes up.
During the week:
Tuesday evening during the school year - Non-denominational women’s group that gathers for Bible Study at 6:30 p.m. in room 116. They are currently studying the book of Matthew.
Wednesday evenings during the school year - The Women’s Bible study meets in the Library at 6:00 p.m.
Wednesday evenings during the school year - The Pastor’s Bible study meets in room 119 at 6:00 p.m. Topics usually correspond with the current sermon series however, he is known to go off topic when he feels the need. Everyone is welcome. No books required.
Current special studies:
“UN-TIED” Methodists - Beginning Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019, 11:30 a.m. Penny will be leading a five week study on what makes us Methodist. This study is in coordination with the current sermon series of the same name. No book required. To sign up, contact the church office 573-893-2556, or just show up.
“Christian Believer” - Sept. 18, Pastor Tom will began a 24-week study exploring church doctrine and the authors of documents that have contributed to the central teachings of the Christian faith. Classes meet on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. or Thursday mornings at 11:30 a.m. There is a book cost for this class.
RightNow Media – Wesley UMC offers free subscriptions to an online streaming service for anyone that is interested in some additional home study. It is called Rightnow Media. It is kind of like Netflix for church. To sign up for this service please contact the church office 573-893-2556.
Lenten Bible Studies - Beginning in March there will be several Bible study groups forming to do the “Embracing the Uncertain” Lenten Bible Study. If you are not familiar with it, the season of Lent is the time on the church calendar between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday. This year Ash Wednesday is March 6, 2019. Easter Sunday is April 21, 2019. Watch for more details and sign-up opportunities.
